Curtis was born in Yarrawonga, Victoria, Australia she is the daughter of Carmencita Ojales a Filipina from Bolinao Pangasinan and James Ernest Curtis-Smith, an Australian lawyer. Her father wed Ojales, a Filipina from Bolinao in the year 1982. Jasmine is her sister who is an actor. Their father's side had a half-sister called Clare who died in 2007 of an illness of the heart at just the age of four months.
